Biculturalism

Tākina has worked closely with local Iwi to ensure biculturalism is at the heart of its enterprise, drawing on expertise at Te Papa to honour our connection to Aotearoa New Zealand.

Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington Harbour) is renowned for its unique and diverse winds. Taranaki Whānui gifted the name Tākina to celebrate the unique Wellington winds and the part they played in shaping Wellington. The winds are a metaphor for magic, exuberance, sharing, and ideas. They express the shift of knowledge from one generation to another.

Sitting at the heart of New Zealand, Wellington has a little bit of everything.
