Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre

is a not-for-profit charity managing an unfenced breeding sanctuary for native wildlife. The 942-hectare forest is home to numerous native birds. Inside the managed aviaries, kiwi, kākā and kākāriki are hatched for release across Aotearoa New Zealand.

What to expect

The field trip involves a bus journey on Saturday afternoon followed by several hours of exploring the wildlife centre and hearing of the conservation work being done. Travel and afternoon tea covered in the cost of the field trip.  Suitable footwear, sun protection, jacket, snacks, camera, and drink bottle are recommended.
