Infusion of teat sealant for dairy cattle using best recommended practice (for seasonal teat-sealers)

Objectives

This Edu-Badge is designed for technicians who administer intramammary products. On completion of this Edu-Badge the candidate will be competent to:
  • Explain the purpose and process of herd administration of intramammary therapies to prevent mastitis.
  • Demonstrate techniques to minimise infection and disease transmission during herd administration of intramammary therapies.
  • Administer intramammary therapies using industry recommended practice and techniques to maximise udder health of dairy animals.

Guidance

Edu-Badges are designed for learning to occur in a workplace setting. Each candidate will need a mentor/coach to help guide them through the resources and practical task/s to gain proficiency. We've provided some mentor guidelines to help you select the best person to help you.

Resources

Once your registration is received, you will get access to the resources in VetScholar (NZVA's online learning platform) which you will need to work through before completing the assessment.

Assessment

The three-part assessment is completed in VetScholar. Each part of the assessment must be completed and submitted for marking and awarding of the badge. The assessment include written and video submissions.

The three parts of the assessments are:

  1. Verification completed by your employer.
  2. Underpinning knowledge.
  3. Administration technique.

Full instructions are provided for each task in the separate documents. All aspects of each task must be completed correctly to pass this proficiency badge.

Trained and experienced assessors will evaluate your evidence and provide feedback on how you did for each task, as well as how you did overall. If your evidence does not yet meet the requirements, we will provide feedback on what is missing and encourage you to practice your skills and attempt the Edu-Badge again at a later date. If there are minor gaps in your submission evidence, you will be given the opportunity to resubmit.

Please note that this Edu-Badge expires 12 months from the issue date. To remain current, you need to complete the re-accreditation annually. You will receive a reminder two months prior to your Edu-Badge expiry date.

Candidates who were previously accredited with the University of Otago EduBit qualification may be eligible to sit the Edu-Badge reaccreditation assessment in 2024 rather than the full initial assessment. You must supply evidence that you successfully completed the EduBit qualification (either accreditation or reaccreditation) in 2022 and were signed off as competent to administer intramammary products by a veterinarian in 2023 (suitable evidence would be a completed “NZVA Competency: Administration of intramammary products in dairy cattle” workbook).
