Speaker

Jessica Romine - DVM, DACVIM, Specialist in small animal medicine

Jessica Romine was born in Washington, D.C. and she pursued her undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Animal & Poultry Sciences and Psychology. She then received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Jessica completed an internship in Atlanta, Georgia, and a residency in Detroit, Michigan, specializing in small animal internal medicine. She achieved the status of Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in 2017. She has advanced training in interventional radiology (tracheal and urethral stenting, ectopic ureter ablation, coil embolization of intrahepatic shunts, etc) and a particular interest in hepatic and autoimmune diseases. She is involved with the ACVIM, serving on both the general and specialty exam committees as well as the endorsement task force. Currently, she is the director of the intern program at the Animal Referral Centre. She worked on prospective research in the gastrointestinal microbiome and diet-responsive enteropathies while in Michigan and has enjoyed supporting interns in publishing case reports while here in New Zealand. In 2020, Jessica moved to New Zealand due to her partner's job with the US team for the America's Cup. Outside of work, she enjoys trying out new recipes, exploring the various tramps around Auckland and beyond, renovating her home in central Auckland, and catering to the whims of her cat, Fivian, who came across from the US (yes, Fivian as in FIV, who doesn't appreciate a feline name pun!)
