Description
All NZ-based vet clinics and animal shelters – from one person outfits to large organisations – are covered by the Privacy Act when they collect, store and use personal information about their clients or employees. This means they must understand their obligations in relation to the collection and processing of personal information, including ensuring compliance with the Privacy Act’s information privacy principles (IPPs).

As well as keeping your organisation on the right side of the law, getting privacy right ensures a much better experience for your staff and clients, and can truly enable better business. Getting privacy wrong can spell disaster for an organisation’s reputation. It can cause serious harm to the people affected, and it can create significant legal and financial liability.

Join Simply Privacy Principal and Director Daimhin Warner for a practical discussion on the implications of the Privacy Act and IPPs for vet clinics and animal shelters. In this virtual session, Daimhin will explain what privacy is (and is not), what personal information is, what the IPPs require, and what happens if it all goes wrong. He will also explore a few known pain points for vet clinics and others who deal with animals, including when and how personal information should be shared with the Police.

To ensure the discussion is as useful and practical as possible, feel free to submit questions before the webinar. Daimhin will either work these questions into his presentation or discuss them at the end. We will send you an email with a link to submit your questions when you register.

Speaker

Daimhin Warner
Daimhin is a senior privacy professional with nearly 20 years’ privacy and related experience. Daimhin loves strategic privacy engagements and reflecting on the big picture (to anyone who’ll listen, including board directors or conference attendees), but he’s also quite comfortable in the detail. Daimhin earned his privacy stripes working with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for 7 years, ultimately managing the Commissioner’s Auckland Investigations Team. Daimhin then moved to NZ’s largest life insurer, where he created and headed a Privacy Team and programme, before joining Simply Privacy in 2015. Daimhin holds an LLB, an LLM (Hons) in Public Law, and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E). He’s also NZ Country Leader for the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). In 2022, the IAPP recognised Daimhin’s significant contribution to the privacy profession, designating him a Westin Emeritus Fellow.
