Overview
Learn about surgical repair techniques restoring function using UHMWPE synthetic implants anchored with interference screws.

Overview of the latest applications:

  • Achilles / Patellar / Triceps tendon repairs without prolonged immobilisation or ESF frames
  • Intra-articular round ligament repair following hip luxation
  • Surgical management of various stifle ligament ruptures.  

Learning objectives

  • Learn about options for managing ligament and tendon injuries including use of UHMWPE synthetic implants and interference screws.
  • Get updated in the latest advancements in ligament reconstruction (background, theory, biomechanics, surgical techniques and outcomes).
  • Discover the opportunity for arthroscopic treatment of CCL rupture
  • Get an overview of all the applications including surgical techniques, case reports & publications i.e., hip luxation, patellar/achilles/triceps rupture repair.
  • Practice surgical techniques for Achilles Tendon and Hip Luxation, CCL.

Intended impact
Delegates will be able to apply the theory and techniques learnt and practiced on the course to a range of soft tissue orthopedic cases, surgically managing ligament and tendon injuries. 

Course type
Wetlab using cadavers. All implants and instrumentation required will be provided.

Phillipe Buttin - DMV, MRCVS, DESV

Philippe has been a doctor of veterinary medicine since 2007and is a French specialist surgeon in small animal surgery(DESV). He graduated from the University of Liège. Then at the end of 2008, he moved to England for a year to carry out an assistantship at Fitzpatrick Referrals, where he had the opportunity to see advanced surgeries (ITAP, hip prosthesis, elbow prosthesis, and others).He began his residency at the European College of Veterinary Surgeon at Vetagro Sup in Lyon in 2009.He also completed an internship in minimally invasive surgery, hip prosthesis and elbow prosthesis alongside Loïc Déjardin. Since 2013, he has developed a surgery consultant activity in the alpine arc. He became a lecturer and consulting surgeon with Vetbiobank. He has helped develop many new techniques publishing results. Philippe enjoys teaching including at ECVS congresses and recently at Vetagro Sup University training with Professor Eric Viguier, with whom he is in close collaboration concerning research around ligamentoplasty and the biomechanics associated with it.
