Learning outcomes

This practical seminar is designed for veterinarians who want to enhance their use of diagnostics and further their knowledge of a working laboratory and interpretations. With a strong practical focus on diagnostics, this course will have attendees walk through the laboratory (non-working at the time) and explain tests and key considerations for sample submission using case study approach. The learning objectives are to learn, practice, and ask questions of pathologists directly in a small group environment. This format gives attendees the opportunity to build their skills and confidence to be able to consider their new learnings back in the consultation room or surgery.

Intended impact
The IDEXX " Meet the Experts" seminar provide a supportive learning environment where professionals can seek advice for sample submission, learn about how samples are processed and case studies. 

  • Provide not typically seen "behind the scenes" information regarding diagnostics from submission to results.
  • Build professional peer-peer learning networks for the veterinarian.
  • Support a deeper understanding of key initiatives antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Share submitted case studies.

Dr Laura Thornton - BVetMed 
Small Animal Medicine Specialist
Laura obtained her veterinary degree from The Royal Veterinary College in 2009 and completed herresidency in small animal internal medicine at Massey University in 2018. Laura is board-certified insmall animal internal medicine, is a Registered Specialist in small animal medicine and is based inNew Zealand. She joined IDEXX as an Internal Medicine Consultant in 2022 and enjoys all aspectsof small animal internal medicine.
