Abdominal radiology for companion animal practice
Radiography comprises the majority of diagnostic medical images generated in veterinary practice and is often used in companion animal practice. Taking high quality diagnostic images and implementing consistent and confident interpretation skills is critical when making a diagnosis from a radiograph.
Following on from the very popular thoracic course, this is the second of three courses, and will cover the basic abdominal conditions seen on a day-to-day basis in practice.Dates

Rachel Pollard DVM, PhD, Diplomate American College of Veterinary Radiology, Professor Emerita of Diagnostic Imaging, University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine
Rachel attended the University of Washington in Seattle for her undergraduate work and Washington State University for her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She then moved to New York for a one-year general rotating internship at the Animal Medical Center. Dr. Pollard moved to Davis, CA in 1997 to complete the 4-year residency in Diagnostic Imaging at the University of California, Davis. Rachel then completed a PhD in Comparative Pathology and began as an Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Imaging at UC Davis in April 2005. She became an associate and then full professor over the course of her career at UC Davis and was voted ‘favorite teacher’ at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine several times during her 15 years of teaching. Rachel has served as a member of the American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) exam committee and as the ACVR president. She is now a Professor Emerita having recently retired from UC Davis and is now a radiologist working with Digital DIVA and Southern Veterinary Imaging in Nelson, New Zealand. She has a clinical interest in small animal ultrasound and dynamic imaging techniques such as contrast fluoroscopy for the diagnosis of swallowing disorders.
Nicki is qualified as a Medical Radiographer. She switched from people to animals over 20 years ago after seeing a job advertised at Massey University. The wide range of species that come through the vet school and the constant and rapid advancement in radiology technology ensures there is always plenty to learn. Clinical cases, research projects and teaching provide for a challenging and stimulating work environment. For the last 10 years Nicki has been fortunate to be invited to teach in Australia at both Adelaide and Charles Sturt Universities and she has also spent time at UC Davis in California looking at veterinary MRI and CT. Satisfaction comes in passing on the knowledge and practical skills she has learned along the way to help veterinary professionals improve their imaging skills.
