1. Understanding of the clinical approach to challenging canine and feline Dermatology cases, both atopic and adverse food reaction.
2. Learn the current modalities for pruritic patients, how to overcome challenges or barriers with treatment approaches and key tips of difficult case management.
Intended impact
The two hour session, directed at veterinarians, but also suitable for experienced nurses will cover:
1. Introduction & Dermatology nutrition quiz (15 mins)
2. Overview of the clinical approach to challenging feline and canine Dermatology cases (15 mins)
3. Case studies provided by the presenter will encourage attendees to work together in small groups. The case studies will be a mixture of challenging canine and feline Dermatology cases, where adverse food reactions or atopic dermatitis has been diagnosed (1 hour)
4. Veterinary Dermatologist will conclude the event by presenting on current treatment modalities for pruritic patients, how to overcome challenges or barriers with treatment approaches, and key tips for difficult case management (30 mins)
Dr. Helen Orbell - BSc, BVSc, MANZCVS
Helen graduated from The University of Queensland in 2001 and has worked as a small and large animal vet in New Zealand, Australia, the US and the UK.
She obtained the ANZCVS membership examination in Small Animal Medicine in 2007 and worked in the Community Practice at Massey for several years. She started a dermatology residency with Animal Dermatology Clinic in 2017 and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2021.
Helen has been working as a dermatologist with ADC based at Massey until May this year. She has now opened her own clinic – the Referral Animal Skin Hospital (RASH) – in Palmerston North.
